2016: Message Plastic Pollution Coalition

Captain Charles Moore was the first one who discovered the Plastic Soup in 1997

Kapitein Charles Moore van de Algalita Marine Research Foundation (Amerika) ontdekte in de jaren negentig als eerste de Grote Pacifische Vuilnisbelt: een oceaan met eindeloze drijvende stukken plastic afval. Het zeewater vermengd met delen plastic wordt ‘plastic soup‘ genoemd. Charles Moore vestigt de aandacht op het groeiende, verstikkende probleem van plastic afval in onze zeeën in de volgende video’s.

Er zijn wereldwijd 5 plekken waar plastic materiaal zich in de oceanen heeft verzameld. Deze plekken worden ‘Gyres’ genoemd.

2015: Video door tv-kanaal Europees Parlement (maart 2015) om Europese burgers te informeren over de plastic tas en de schade aan het milieu. Tevens de aanleiding tot het verbod op de gratis plastic tas.

2015: Alison Teal is a surfgirl living in Hawaï and travelled around the world with her parents when she was young. She brings the plastic problem to the attention (Maldives).

2016: A Plastic Ocean is an adventure documentary shot on more than 20 locations over the past 4 years. The trailer to the latest work, a film produced by Joanne Ruxton and Adam Leipzig: aplasticocean.film

2012: De Nederlander Boyan Slat uit Delft vertelt over de plastic soup in de oceaan en zijn uitvinding. Via een zeer succesvolle crowdfunding campagne heeft hij de organisatie ‘The Ocean Cleanup’ opgericht. Tijdens zijn duikvakantie kwam hij meer plastic tassen tegen dan vissen.
